This was our annual two night drift boat camping trip after the salmon fly hatch on the lower South Fork. We usually float just after the salmon fly hatch. Fish are still looking for the big flies and the crowds are all upstream following the hatch. There's a geat mix of Browns and Cutthroats in this stretch. Great big fish move into the shallow margins during this time, looking for easy pickings. It gives you a good chance at hooking something specatcular. We float 10-13 miles per day, and find a good place to camp, usually near a good riffle for the evening rise. The hot July temps make wet wading a necessity. This, and a cold beer are a must for cooling down. |
